My name is Alyssa Bird. I founded African Art Direct in 2009 after a five year love affair with Africa, its people, traditions, beauty and most importantly, its artwork. African art is particularly special to me, I love its beauty, vibrant colours, diversity and amazing scenes of African village life. I travel to Africa myself to individually choose each piece of art that is on display on this website. I meet the artists and I choose only unique, beautiful and high quality pieces of art. Real artists. True connections I have met and built relationships with both emerging and established artists in Africa. I am passionate about supporting their work and ensuring that all artworks demand a fair price and benefit the artists directly. Where possible, African Art Direct supports small charities through donations from sales or in the form of actual artwork. Please see Charities below for more information. At African Art Direct we are dedicated to helping small charities in Africa and we donate to them at every opportunity. At our exhibition in February 2010 we raised money for Mwamba House, a small charity providing assistance to Mwanza, a town on the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. In June 2010 we donated a Heidi Lange print to the Vanessa Grant Trust, a charity established to fund and support educational projects in Rongai, Kenya. The painting was sold at a fundraising auction for $500!!
